Poggio alle Gazze is a rather unique assemblage of Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino, Viognier, plus a small portion of Semillon grown at the Bolgheri estate. Fresh, bright and zesty, the 2023 is a real charmer. It offers stone fruit, herb and citrus scents allied to delicate flavours leaning towards elderflower, mango, pear and orange, with a stoniness to the mid-palate. Delicious. 92 James Button, Decanter (2025).

Lime zest, citrus, touch of fennel brings lift and a touch of bitterness, with oyster shell salinity adding breadth and texture. Limestone soils predominantly for this wine, planted with traditional Tuscan varieties, located 5km from the ocean. This is the traditional white of the estate, dating back to 1987, today with Marco Balsimelli director, Denise Cosentino winemaker. Not the easiest of vintages, with a rainy early season and a hot finish, skilfully navigated. 50% in barrel, 25% new oak, plus amphora, concrete vats and wine globes. The next few years will see a rise in production, as the estate has bought east-facing plots at 2,000m, currently planting with both Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. 93 Jane Anson (2025).
